In hiding

I took residence under a bridge in the city.
There was approximately 4 square metres which was out of public view.
At the end of this space was a rock wall I could look down and see the pedestrian bike path and above me both cars and walkers could cross the water.
Had I been able to feel the temperature I imagined it would have been cold, but that was no longer a problem for me.
It was dark.
It was safe.
I spent hours just sitting, wondering what to do next.
Contemplating plan after plan.
There were times I wished I could sleep just to break up the monotony but my body was finding no reason to sleep.
During the day I'd hear people walk over the bridge where I lay talking about random inconsequential things that once mattered to me such as their new dress, outings they were excited about or important dates like Christmas.
By night when it was quiet I started to roam the area discovering where I was.
I discovered objects that surrounded me and I even found a map.

I experimented with my body.
When I practiced jumping off a high ledge, my body felt no impact.
When I ran, the coldness I usually felt in my chest while running and the shortness of breath was no longer present, which allowed me to run faster.
I could swim under water for longer as I no longer needed to breath.
While I am not physically stronger the changes my body has made by taking the hindrances away have left me feeling stronger and more powerful then ever before.

Half way through one night I discovered I might not be as alone as I had start to think I was.
I stumbled across a girl from my lecture room who had a hole in her arm that seemed to have bled at some point but had stopped now, just like the bite on my side.
Her name was Liz she was 2 years my senior, Liz decided to stay with me as it felt safer together, we could watch each others backs.

During my time under the bridge parts of my memory came back to me.
I was repulsed by the memory that I attacked an innocent woman without reason.
Was I a monster?
Who was to say, but if I was a monster it was a position I had been put in unintentionally.
That's when I knew I could fight against it.
I had remembered where I was living.
I decided that if I could get there it would be a great starting point.
