In hiding

I took residence under a bridge in the city.
There was approximately 4 square metres which was out of public view.
At the end of this space was a rock wall I could look down and see the pedestrian bike path and above me both cars and walkers could cross the water.
Had I been able to feel the temperature I imagined it would have been cold, but that was no longer a problem for me.

Discovery

As time went on I felt stronger.
Yet I was discovering strange things that did not make sense, like the bite mark on my side that seemed to have bled at some point but had stopped now.
My hearing seemed to be clearer in some ways and weaker in others, or perhaps I was just noticing some things that passed me by before, such as breathing or light foot steps which I wouldn’t have noticed before but now sounded clear as day.
I could smell flesh and blood.
I no longer had to breath.

It Began

The pain was overwhelming.
I could no longer remember what was happening or how I came to be in this position.
Nothing made sense to me.
My body was fighting to stay alive, fighting to stop the pain, while the pain was all consuming.
I had no idea how long I'd been lying here but it felt like centuries and every now and then I'd black out. Was I slipping away? Dying? No, it would hit me again like a steam train and I'd feel my whole body shake, twisting and turning but frozen solid.
Nothing was real, only pain.
Sudden Voices.
Screaming.
